The 29-year-old defender becomes Jon McDonald's third summer acquisition and adds more depth and quality to a squad that continues to get stronger.

Chris McDonald, formerly of Jarrow Roofing, Whitley Bay, Berwick Rangers and Morpeth Town, has spent the last five seasons at North Shields where he has been a regular and also played a pivotal part in their promotion to the Northern Premier League in 2021-22.

Manager Jon McDonald has highlighted the reasoning behind bringing Chris to the club.

"Macca is an excellent full back, as good as anything in the division. He's experienced and offers us an attacking outlet. 

"He's also a winner with a strong mentality, and he will help drive standards."

Our third summer signing has also spoke on his delight to being heading to the UTS Stadium. 

"I am over the moon to be here. Dunston is a club that has always competed and that is something that I am eager to be a part of." McDonald said after his arrival.

"I would describe myself as a forward-thinking player. I like to get forward and I am hard working." McDonald added.

It would be hard to argue against those comments. Dunston supporters may remember McDonald scoring a 90th minute, 25-yard equaliser at the UTS Stadium last season for North Shields in a game that finished 1-1 in the latter stages of the season.

When discussing his targets for the upcoming season, the new man has set his sights on achieving the best possible season.

"The goal is to win the league. With the side that we have here at Dunston, there is no reason why we can't."
