PREVIEW | Cleethorpes Town (A)

Dunston make the 320 mile round trip to Lincolnshire this Wednesday for a rearranged fixture after the postponement last month. Currently sitting in 7th position in the Northern Premier League East table, Dunston have been in excellent form winning the last six league games, and currently unbeaten in seven.

Dunston's last fixture came just over a week ago in a 2-0 away win at fellow play-off hopefuls Consett. David Robinson continued his excellent form as the midfielder scored twice in the second half. It was also another clean sheet as Dunston's excellent defensive record continued having conceded only 17 goals in the league so far this season.

Despite the winning run and unbeaten record, the last seven games have been spaced over a long period with multiple postponements leaving Dunston playing catch-up with the rest of the league.

So far, Dunston have amassed 36 points from 17 games with a very healthy goal difference of +16. A win away at Cleethorpes would see Dunston climb back into the play-off positions with games in hand still to play.

THE OPPOSITION

The Owls currently sit in 12th position having picked up 29 points from their 21 games. Last time out for Cleethorpes was a 0-0 draw away at 2nd place Hebburn Town. They remain unbeaten in their last four games picking up two wins and two draws.

Wednesday's hosts also boast a very impressive record at the MyEnergi Stadium. They haven't lost a league game at home since August 26th, in a 1-0 defeat against Pontefract Collieries. In total, Cleethorpes have only lost twice at home this season. The other defeat was against National League North side, Alfreton Town, in the Emirates FA Cup Second Qualifying Round in September.

Ones to watch out for from the opposition this Wednesday is top scorer Will Annan, who has eight goals so far this season, and midfielder Curtis Bateson who could start for the hosts after returning to action off the bench against Hebburn.

Last season, Cleethorpes finished 11th out of 20.

LAST SEASON VS CLEETHORPES

Dunston had an enjoyable time against The Owls last season, winning both league meetings. The first game came in December at The UTS Stadium. Cleethorpes were 2-0 up inside the first 36 minutes courtesy of goals from Curtis Bateson and Declan Howe.

Carl Finnigan pulled a goal back on 38 minutes to halve the deficit. Second half stoppage time can only be described as pure cinema as Dan Staples saved a penalty in the 91st minute which turned out to be crucial. A stunning leaping header from Sado Djalo, after a pinpoint long ball from Will Jenkins, brought Dunston level in the 94th minute, before Michael Pearson scrambled the ball over the line in the 96th minute to win the game.

There was less drama in the reverse fixture back in January. It was a professional performance as Dunston secured a 1-0 away win after a 61st minute header from Carl Finnigan.
