Despite going behind early on to a Ben Hutchinson header, a first Dunston goal from centre-half Jon Shaw and second half strikes from Liam Thear and Michael Fowler gave Dunston a 3-1 lead. Long Eaton hit back with twenty minutes to play through Jermaine Hollis, however the Dunston backline dug deep and held firm late on to record a big three points on the road

After a long journey down the M1, the last thing Chris Swailes and his management team would have wanted was to go behind early doors. Despite this, with just over a minute on the clock, the hosts took the lead when a Jamie McGuire free kick was flicked on in the box to Ben Hutchinson who slotted a simple header past Dan Staples to give his side a dream start. 

After weathering the early storm, Dunston began to grow slowly into the game, and Sadó Djaló came close to levelling when his flick on was parried wide by Long Eaton goalkeeper Sam Wilson. On twenty minutes, this growing pressure was rewarded when Jon Shaw grabbed his first goal in a Dunston shirt. Jake Jensen provided a delightful deep in-swinging corner which evaded everyone apart from the onrushing Shaw who placed a delicate effort on the volley into the roof of the net to level the scores.

Both sides had notable chances before half-time. First, Long Eaton forward Rogers attempted an audacious overhead kick that was blocked by Terry Galbraith, before Richard Coulson miscued an opportunity after being laid off by Liam Thear. Jake Jensen produced a curling effort that went just wide of the post, and right on half time Coulson fired a shot into the side netting from a tight angle as Dunston began to take charge of the match.

Five minutes into the second half, Dunston had the lead. Liam Thear was the goalscorer, with the forward twisting and turning in the box to fire low into the corner of the net after some strong hold up play by Djalò.

Long Eaton searched for a way back into the game, and came within a whisker of an equaliser when Reco Fyfe played through substitute Kam Campbell, only for the latter to strike the post.

With the hosts pushing for an equaliser, Dunston hit them on the counter to double their lead and make it 3-1. Michael Fowler was played through on goal and rounded the goalkeeper to slot into an empty net and send the travelling Dunston support into raptures as a vital three points came ever closer.

Long Eaton refused to lie down however, and got themselves back into the game on 69 minutes when Jermaine Hollis took a speculative shot from 35 yards out which evaded the clutch of Dunston's Dan Staples and bobbled into the net for 3-2. 

The hosts pushed right until the final whistle, with Staples making a number of important saves and Hollis rattling the crossbar with a bullet header. Dunston's backline put everything on the line, and held firm until the final whistle to confirm a valuable three points away from home, taking Dunston up into 8th position ahead of Tuesday's game against Sheffield FC.
