PREVIEW | Consett AFC (A)

Dunston make the short journey to Consett AFC in the Pitching In Northern Premier League East Division, with Chris Swailes’ side looking to respond following a setback at home to Hebburn Town on Boxing Day, where Dunston lost 1-0.

FORM

Despite Boxing Day’s defeat, Dunston had been in good form and were six games unbeaten in all competitions, which included a superb showing in a 3-1 Durham FA Challenge Cup victory away at Stockton Town.

Our hosts tomorrow Consett have responded well to a disappointing result against Brighouse Town in late November to solidify their position in mid-table. Following a 4-1 home defeat that day, their only two league games in December has seen them gain a point away at Grimsby Borough, before they saw off play-off contending Stockton Town thanks to a late Keiran Aplin goal.

The two teams have met this season already, and it was Dunston who came out on top at the UTS Stadium in front of a good crowd - running out 4-2 winners in an enthralling match thanks to a Sadó Djaló brace and strikes from Liam Thear and Will Jenkins.

Both teams are looking for a win to kick start their 2023, with Dunston looking in particular to keep up the pace with the playoff chasing teams.

THOUGHTS OF THE MANAGEMENT

Following the 1-0 defeat to Hebburn, Chris Swailes had his say on Monday’s tricky test at Consett:

“The best thing about this game is we know it’s going to be a nice pitch. When we played at Stockton in the Durham Challenge Cup you could see the difference in our play.

“We are a footballing side and like to get the ball down so it’s great that we have Consett next and put this (Dunston 0–1 Hebburn Town) behind us.

“I’m hoping we can play as we did against Stockton.”
