Match report - Yorkshire Amateur vs Dunston UTS FC

Dunston continued their superb start to 2022, brushing aside Yorkshire Amateur FC by three goals to nil in a blustery day in Leeds.

Second half goals from Richard Coulson, Michael Fowler and substitute Jack Elliott were enough to put the home side to the sword, meaning Dunston keep up the pressure on those above them in the playoff positions.

The first half was one of very few chances, however Dunston came the closest to scoring. An In swinging corner was met ythe head of captain Craig Scott, however his goal boundheader was well tipped over by Yorkshire stopper Max Culverwell. Dunston continued to control the game but lacked a cutting edge in the final third. They were nearly behind before the break, when Ross Duggan flashed a header wide from a corner. The striker looked Yorkshire’s only real threat all afternoon but was well marshalled by a disciplined Dunston back line.

Dunston raced out of the blocks in the second half, and it wasn’t long before they had the lead. A long ball from inside his own half by Phil Turnbull caught the Ammers defence napping, and Richard Coulson latched onto the stray ball, beat the defenders for pace and slotted the ball calmly past the keeper to give Dunston a deserved lead.

The goal buoyed Dunston, and Michael Fowler went close twice, with only two fine stops from Culverwell denying him. It wasn’t long before Fowler got his goal, however. A Craig Baxter free kick from wide out was whipped in and Fowler beat the offside trap and deftly headed the ball beyond Culverwell for 2-0, leading to jubilant scenes from the Dunston faithful, of whom made up a good 75% of the crowd inside the ground, if not more.

By this point Chris Swailes’ side were well in control of the game and after Jack Elliott had a shot blocked on the line, he too had his goal as a poor goal kick was capitalised on by Michael Fowler, who raced in behind the defence. His shot was well saved by Culverwell but nothing could be done to stop the on rushing Jack Elliott who put the ball into the empty net for 3-0.

A superb team performance which sees Dunston pick up another three points, now having conceded just once in the last four matches.
