Dunston FC vs Ossett United Match Report

Dunston enjoyed a third win on the bounce at the UTS Stadium as they brushed aside Ossett United to continue their march up the table in the Pitching In Northern Premier League East.

A Liam Thear brace in the first half set Dunston on their way to victory as he continued his fine scoring form; grabbing his 5th goal in 3 games.

Dunston, who had controlled the first half very well through an assured performance in midfield, went ahead on 22 minutes when a Jake Stafford corner was met by a bullet Thear header, which left Ossett keeper Jake Teale with no chance, despite his best efforts to keep it out.

Having been the busier keeper all afternoon, Teale made a number of smart saves to keep his team within striking distance, and they should have equalised when a Nash Connolly ball was unable to be tapped in from 2 yards out by Ossett’s forward line. 10 minutes before half time, they were punished for this miss as an in-swinging corner caused pinball havoc in the penalty area, with the ball eventually falling to Thear 3 yards out, who was able to turn and steer the ball into the net for 2-0.

The second half was a scrappy affair with strong winds and heavy rain causing issues all over the pitch. Jake Teale was again the busier keeper, keeping out Ursene Mouanda’s 35 yard strike well, whilst Craig Baxter also came close with a piledriver from distance.

The game came to life with 15 minutes to play. A second yellow card for Dunston’s Philip Turnbull was quickly followed by Tabish Hussain putting the ball into the net for Ossett following a lofted through ball, where he controlled it down brilliantly, took it round the Liam Connell and various members of the Dunston backline before slotting home calmly.

This gave Ossett the lift they needed, and they threw everyone forward in the final few minutes in search of an equaliser. Despite the pressure, it was too little too late as the Dunston defence stood strong and dealt with everything thrown at them, holding on for a gutsy victory against a tough Ossett side who have started the season in fine form.
