Welcome to Dunston, Fin Neary!
We are thrilled to announce the signing of 19-year-old prospect, Fin Neary.
Fin, brother of last seasons' Player's Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season Harvey Neary, becomes Jon McDonald's second summer signing, following on from the arrival of Wil Shaw.
Fin arrives at the UTS Stadium with plenty of experience in senior football at just 19-years of age, having spent the last few seasons with Boldon CA, Whitley Bay, and most recently Whickham FC.
"I'm absolutely buzzing with it!" Fin said.
"After speaking with Jon and hearing the plans for myself and the club, I feel like it was a no-brainer. Jon got in touch with me and we have had a few positive chats. He has told me what he wants from me which really gives me confidence for the season ahead."
Fin also described the kind of player he is and what the fans can expect ahead of the 2025-26 season.
"I'm a hardworking, energetic player who will give everything, on and off the ball. I can play anywhere in midfield as well as at full-back.
"I spent two season at Boldon CA in the Northern League Division Two. I then moved up into Division One with Whitley Bay and then I spent last season at Whickham. The clubs' ambitions to push on and be promoted really suits me with what I want to be involved in. I'm still young, and I believe this is the best place for me to learn more and kick on," he added.
Fin's arrival also means that he will be once again linking up with his brother Harvey, after the two last played together at Whitley Bay in the 2023-24 season.
"Harvey is a quality player and I've already learnt so much from him. We both know our qualities, but we both know how to help each other when needed, which is why this is good for me.
"We played in midfield together at Whitley Bay and I loved every minute, so I am really looking forward to it again. Especially after seeing how well he has done in his first season here. He seems to just be getting better and better!
"I saw how close the lads have came two years in a row now and I watched the play-off games last season. It is gutting for everyone involved with the club. However, the aim this year, with the quality in the squad, should be nothing less than promotion. That is one of the big factors in me joining the club and hopefully my contribution can help give the club, players, and the fans what they deserve." Fin added.
Dunston Manager, Jon McDonald, has also commented on the arrival of Fin:
"Fin is another good young player, he possesses all of the attributes that we want at the club, both as a player and a person. He's fit, mobile, aggressive, and most importantly, he wants to get better.
"At 19-years-old, we think he has big potential to continue to develop at Dunston. He will feel at home with his brother at the club, but I want to be clear, we have brought him to the club on his own merit, and we can't wait to work with him this year."
