Welcome to Dunston, Dan Wilson!
The 31-year-old centre forward becomes our latest signing and will be available for selection for tomorrow's home league fixture against Matlock Town.
Wilson is a familiar face at the UTS Stadium after originally signing for the club in March 2014 from Tow Law Town. He went on to make 50 appearances for the club, scoring 8 times as a youngster, before departing in August 2015.
Over a decade after leaving the club, the now much more experienced Wilson re-joins the club for his second spell in NE11.
"I'm delighted to get it all sorted," he said.
"Dunston is a great club with a fantastic squad of players, and hopefully I can add to that. Having played for the club before, I have always kept an eye on results and the progress the club has made through the leagues.
"I have probably spoke with Jon [McDonald] on and off over the past few years about coming into the club and I feel like now is the right time. Having worked with him before, and knowing some of the lads, I can't wait to get started.
"When the opportunity came up for me to join Dunston, it was something that was hard for me to turn down after the management team left Blue Star. Dunston are challenging at the right end of the table and I am looking forward to a successful season." Wilson added.
As previously mentioned, Wilson used to play for Dunston as a youngster, and has went on to have a very successful career in the North East non-league scene.
"Yeah so I actually used to play for Dunston for a couple of seasons when I was 18, a good few years ago now! I moved onto Seaham Red Star then North Shields where I won Northern League Division One. Then I had two seasons at Blyth Town where we achieved back-to-back promotions and I scored the winning penalty in the play-off final before joining Newcastle Blue Star over the summer.
"I'm a traditional number 9 who can lead the line and chip in with goals as well as linking up the play. For me at Dunston, personally I just want to contribute on the pitch as much as possible with goals and assists, helping the team. Everyone's ambition at the club is promotion and I am hoping I can help us achieve that." Wilson said.
Jon McDonald has also commented after the arrival of our latest signing:
"Dan has played for me at both North Shields and Blyth AFC where we achieved success. I know what he brings on the pitch, and he fits our profile in terms of character and personality. This is a big signing for us as Dan brings another option to our front line."
Welcome to Dunston, Dan!
