"This is where I want to be next season." - Dan Turner

After making 45 appearances for the club in his debut season, Dan Turner has reflected on the ups and downs and has his sights firmly set on the upcoming campaign.
The 21-year-old was a prominent figure for the club last season making 45 appearances in all competitions. Now, DT is looking to further his development after committing to the club for a further year, signing a contract until the end of next season.
Firstly, Turner has reflected on the cruel ending to the 2024-25 season:
"I'm still absolutely gutted we didn't get promoted after coming so close. All season the lads have worked their socks off and it would have been nice to celebrate that with promotion.
"So, to just miss out like that, it's not a nice feeling," he said.
Despite the disappointment with how the season ended, the former Newcastle Blue Star and North Shields youngster has definitely enjoyed his first season at the club. That includes the 94th minute winner in the play-off semi-final last Tuesday night.
"The reason I made the move to Dunston is because I wanted to challenge myself in a higher league. Personally, I think I have done really well and I also feel like a lot of my better performances have came against the top teams in the league, so I've enjoyed the transition.
"I wouldn't say I've found anything more challenging after stepping up a couple of leagues, I just think that if I put a bit more size on, I'll be able to do even better as it is quite a physical league.
"The goal last Tuesday was definitely a special one for me and I do think I will find a moment to top that. Jon basically just said to me go on and change the game, be as energetic as you can, and just get involved - and that is what I did.
"There's been a few times this season where I have probably got myself down a little bit, so it was nice to come on and put a smile on my face. I think I watched the goal back every day up until the final, I just couldn't stop watching it!" Turner said.
Finally, Turner gave a word on the club, his summer plans, and his hopes for the upcoming season.
"I've loved my time at Dunston this season, it's a great club full of really good people.
"Whether that's the committee, the people working behind the scenes, management and the lads, you are really well looked after at Dunston. This is where I want to be next season and I want to keep on challenging myself.
"The next couple of months are big for me because I want to be coming back into pre-season in the best shape possible. So, I'll be going to the gym all the time and I will probably look to do a few one-to-ones to stay fit and to just keep ticking over because my goal for next season is to get numbers to my name and be a constant starter.
"As a team, the aim will still be to get promoted because that is what we deserve. The quality that we have throughout the team is ridiculous and we know this season we have been the best team in the league.
"There's just been a few times where we have let ourselves down with results meaning we didn't finish in the number one spot, but promotion will still be the aim for next season."
