PREVIEW | Ashington (A)

Dunston return to league action as they make the short journey to Northumberland. Ashington are the opponents for the second consecutive game.
Dunston ran out comfortable 3-0 winners last weekend in the First Qualifying Round of The Isuzu FA Trophy at home to Ashington. First half goals from Jordan Lamb, and a brace from Sado Djalo, was enough to see us progress to the next round. A trip to Northern Premier League West outfit, Nantwich Town, awaits next Saturday.
However, this weekend's focus is all about the league with this being our first league game since Bank Holiday Monday's 1-0 defeat at home to Hebburn Town.
THE OPPOSITION
Ashington AFC are once again the opponents this Saturday. The Colliers currently sit in 17th position after picking up four points from their opening six games. In comparison, Dunston currently occupy the final play-off spot in 5th place, picking up ten points from our opening five league games.
After achieving promotion in the inter-step play-off game at the end of last season, Ashington have struggled to find their feet in the early stages of the season at step 4 of the non-league pyramid. Last weekend, Ashington suffered a 3-0 FA Trophy defeat at the hands of Dunston. In the league, results haven't been much better with just one win from their opening six games.
Ashington also played on Tuesday night in a rearranged game away at Newton Aycliffe. The Colliers were defeated 2-0, and finished the game with nine men after two red cards.
RECENT HISTORY
Excluding the game last weekend, you have to go back to 2017 for the last meeting between the two sides. Dunston were defeated 5-3 at home, with our goals coming from Mark Fitzpatrick, and a brace from Dan Halliday.
Dunston's last league win against Ashington came earlier in that season. A 3-0 away win with Fitzpatrick once again on the scoresheet after a penalty, as well as Jack Elliott and Liam Thear.
In our last six meetings with Saturday's opponents, Dunston have three wins, two draws, and one defeat.
