Player interview
Graham Heslop talks to Dunston UTS FC’s latest signing Luke Porritt.
You've been training with the squad over the last few weeks and you've got one pre-season friendly under your belt, how are you settling in at the club?
Honestly I’m settling in very well, the lads management have been very welcoming and it makes it easier for a player to relax when the team are like they are.
You were an integral part of Dunston's only goal against Gateshead, with an excellent cross after beating your man out wide, how did it feel to get an assist in your first game for the club?
It’s always a nice thing to be involved in a goal on your debut and show players, management and fans what sort of player I am.
After the opening game of the pre-season campaign against a tough opposition, how do you think the lads played as a team?
Very well, they were going to have the most possession but we looked threatening and defended well. The second half was much better in my opinion fitness wise and understanding each other as it’s the first time some have played together.
You've enjoyed spells at various clubs higher up in the Football pyramid and based on the calibre of players within the squad at the minute, how do you think we'll do this season?
The players have also played in higher leagues also that’s another reason I was attracted. Without jinxing us I think it could be a good season for the club fingers crossed.
Do you have any personal targets for the season ahead?
Honestly it’s just trying to get a full season without any serious injuries and do what I can to help the team progress.
After suffering such a horrific injury during your time at Scarborough Athletic, has it been a tough road to recovery? Both physically and mentally?
For the first few weeks I didn’t understand the severity of it. It got challenging after around 3 months not being able to walk, work and just feeling sluggish. But thankfully I’m back at it and feeling great where I am at the minute fitness wise and mentally with a girl coming august 30th!
