We speak to Dunston UTS FC’s latest signing.
In this player interview speak to Dunston UTS FC’s latest signing Michael Fowler.
The 20 year old forward made an immediate impact at The UTS Stadium, scoring the opening goal in Dunston’s 2-0 win at home to high flying Marske United on New Year’s Day, a result which brought an end to 5 game losing streak.
Michael recently completed a Scholarship in The USA with Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and had started his career with Sunderland AFC, before then moving on to Burnley, where he was a prolific scorer at youth level.
Having completed a successful scholarship with The Premier League side, he then joined Fleetwood Town as part of their development squad. He has had loan spells with FC United of Manchester, Guiseley and Bamber Bridge, before moving to the US in July 2021.
First of all Michael, welcome to Dunston UTS FC, what are your thoughts on signing for the club?
I am excited to have committed somewhere and excited to get fully started with a run of games and a run of goals.
It is close to home and from what I gathered by playing on Saturday, the fans are great and it is a very family orientated club, which I love.

You’ve made an excellent start to life at Dunston in a 2-0 win at home to Marske United on New Year’s Day and marked your debut with a superb goal. You must be delighted with the start you’ve made so far.
It was a great team performance all around, from back to front and was I delighted with the lads getting the 3 points after a few tough results. Hopefully it’s given the lads confidence that we can go out and beat anyone.
I was brought in to fill in the missing piece of the puzzle up top, as that’s what the team has been lacking over the past weeks, and hopefully it can be the start of a very good end to the season.

Having watched Saturday’s performance, you filled that piece of that puzzle well. Looking at your journey through the game so far, you've arrived with an impressive CV for a lad of only 20 years old. What attracted you in signing for Dunston?
My CV is excellent, but I am where I am for a reason and that is to prove myself again and work my way back up the ladder.
I had a lot of different options, however I chose Dunston as it is a club with high ambitions and also a club which has given me the opportunity to showcase my ability from the get go. I am also excited to be a part of a great bunch of lads who work their hardest for each other.
You were out in The USA before this. How was that as an experience?
It was a great experience, the football over there is very different in comparison to England and Europe, however I am glad I had the chance to experience it and learn the life skills I have by doing so.
Getting back to England and playing at this level, what are your long term careers goals in the game?
I obviously have aspirations of getting back into the professional game, but I know what it takes to do so. I like to set short a term achievable goals, goals which lead to wins for the team. I really think we can achieve promotion this year with a little extra push.
Finally, do you have a message for our Supporters?
The Supporters were tremendous last Saturday. My only ask is that they keep following us and being great, as it’s going to be a great end of the season.
