“I felt like I was putting in the hard work, but not getting the rewards to show for it.” - Scott Robson

An interview with Dunston forward and summer signing, Scott Robson, after winning both Player and Goal of the Month for November.

It was a stellar month for Scott Robson as he doubled up by winning both the Player and Goal of the Month awards.

November proved to be a massive turning point for Robson as he boosted his goal tally up to 12 for the season in all competitions. It was seven goals across six league games which included a stunning hat-trick against Consett at the UTS Stadium, and a brace away at Carlton Town. There were also goals against Sherwood Colliery and Garforth Town.

“Yeah, it’s been a great month. I’m really happy with how this month has went and I feel like the hard work that I have put in has gotten the rewards,” he said.

The Dunston forward has admitted that he didn’t quite feel like he was getting the rub of the green in the early stages of the season after some unlucky breaks in front of goal. Now, he’s looking to put that behind him and kick on for the rest of the season.

“I think at the start of the season, the open goal miss on my debut against Pontefract took a lot out of me and knocked my confidence. I felt like I was putting in the hard work, but not getting the rewards, or goals, to show for it.

“I feel that after last season, scoring 56 goals for Whickham, has put a lot more pressure on me this season because people expect me to get close or replicate that and I know myself, with high standards, I want to score as many goals as I can,” Robson said.

Even if the goals weren’t coming, Robson’s work rate each game has been there for all to see and he’s loving his time working alongside Jon McDonald and the rest of the coaching staff and players.

The arrival of JJ O’Donnell in October has also proved to be massive as the two players have conjured up an impressive partnership over recent weeks.

“It’s been great and I’ve really enjoyed it so far. Jon and the lads are great people and they all want nothing but the best for this club. They always push you in training and make you work hard and it pays off in games.

“It’s also been great playing with JJ [O’Donnell]. He knows exactly how I play and his final pass is exceptional. His vision is great with how fast he sees the runs that I make,” Robson said.

After impressing over November and leading the line over our current 8-game unbeaten run, Robson is looking to continue that form for the remainder of season. His contributions, along with the rest of the squad, has seen the club rise to 4th in the league table after starting last month in 9th place.

"Yeah, November has boosted my confidence a lot. I just want to carry on the momentum into December and for the rest of season and to score as many goals as I can for the team.

"I think the main key is sticking together as a team. Our work rate is also important. If we keep working hard and keeping clean sheets, we have the quality at the top end of the pitch to rally up the points and keep this momentum going," he said.

Scott and Dunston return to action this Saturday with another massive league fixture at home against Brighouse Town. It's a 3pm kick-off at the UTS Stadium and your support could make the difference!
