End of Season Statement | Tony Cleugh

Dunston UTS FC Co-Chairman, Tony Cleugh, has issued an end of season statement following the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign. A season which saw the club narrowly miss out on promotion to the seventh tier.

"Well, the dust has settled and WOW what a season! Where do you start? When Billy and I accepted the role of Co-Chairman back in July, little did we know what lay ahead.
Within 3 weeks we had a game abandoned due to a pitch invasion, and so the roller coaster ride began…

A complete season of highs and lows; culminating in missing out on promotion by means of a penalty shoot-out. You normally imagine luck and fortune evens it self out over a season but I must say the balance wasn’t right this year.

Out of 38 league games, we played 11 at the UTS Stadium and 27 away from home. That in itself shows how well we have performed this season, and no doubt we would have been promoted outright, should the weather been kinder. Too many people and companies to thank but here goes…

Thanks to our neighbours at Consett and Morpeth for accommodating us and also Brighouse, where we played a ‘home’ game 115 mile away from Dunston. The effort from our management and players was nothing short of amazing and we have nothing but total admiration for you.

Our committee have tried their hearts out on a daily basis to try and get our pitch ready to play. It’s heartbreaking to see them on a match day, when games are called off due to the unprecedented, atrocious, torrential rain we have endured.

Our media team. THE BEST. No other comment needed.

Thanks to our magnificent sponsors who stuck with us and have already committed to support us for the forthcoming season.

Special thanks to Shaun Sadler and UTS Engineering Ltd for his unwavering commitment to the cause and his priceless advice.

Finally our supporters. We feel when we look back this will be the season that brought everyone together on and off the pitch.

Before the monsoons hit, the club was absolutely flying and we will get back to where we were. When the going got tough we showed we are the toughest around.

We’ve kept entrance and season tickets at the same price as last season, to try and show how much your support is appreciated. Stick with us, get behind Jon and the team for the new season from the first kick off until the last whistle. The club is on the rise and really going places. Everyone’s welcome to jump on board."
