REPORT | Grimsby Borough 0 Dunston UTS 1

An early second half goal by Dan Wilson secured an important three points for Dunston in the hunt for promotion at the Bradley Football Development Centre.

Jon McDonald made four changes to the side that defeated Heaton Stannington last Saturday with Tyler Jones, Jack Walker, Sado Djalo and Dan Turner replacing Dan Lowson, Tom Devitt, David Robinson and JJ O’Donnell.

Dunston began the game the brighest and created the opening chance of the game when Chris McDonald’s cross was met by Sado Djalo whose header flashed across the goal.

Michael Pearson seen his effort blocked by last ditch defending from Grimsby Borough. From the resulting corner, Jude Swailes’ bicycle kick went wide with the momentum beginning to grow for Dunston.

Dan Turner came close to opening the scoring on the half-hour mark when some good play inside the box between Turner and Dan Wilson lead to Turner seeing his effort saved by Lait.

The first-half ended with no real chances coming however the second began the same as the first with Dunston creating a chance early on with McDonald seeing an effort from distance parried away from goal by Lait.

The deadlock was broken on 52 minutes when a mix-up at the back for Grimsby seen a defensive clearance hit Wilson on the back and roll into the back of the net to give Dunston a well-earned lead.

Wil Shaw almost made it two soon after seeing his effort saved by Lait before Grimsby created their first real chance of the game with debutant keeper Jones making an excellent one-on-one stop to deny Richardson from equalising.

Djalo and Turner almost extended The Fed’s lead however both seen their efforts saved by Lait. Heading into the final ten minutes of the game, Grimsby almost found themselves an equaliser however an excellent piece of defending saw McDonald clear a goal bound header off the line to secure an important three points.

Next up for Dunston is a home game in the Pitching In Nothern Premier East against Consett this Saturday.
