REPORT | Dunston UTS 3 Heaton Stannington 1

A goal by Jude Swailes on his return from injury and further goals by Rory Edwards and David Robinson sealed an important three points for Dunston at the UTS Stadium.

Jon McDonald made three changes to the side which were defeated by Hallam on Tuesday with Dan Lowson, Jude Swailes and Michael Pearson replacing Elliot Stephenson, Jack Walker and Dan Turner.

Dunston started the brighter of the two sides and opened the scoring inside five minutes when Jude Swailes found room inside the box and lashed past Gordon in the Heaton goal to mark his return from injury with a goal.

The Fed’s bright start to the game continued when David Robinson almost got in behind the Heaton defence following good work from JJ O’Donnell to steal the ball from Capewell. O’Donnell and Robinson linked up again minutes later however the latters shot was saved by Gordon.

O’Donnell started to get into his rhythm and found himself denied twice by Gordon in the Heaton goal. The first of his efforts coming on 26 minutes when his volley was saved well by Gordon from the edge of the area. The second of O’Donnell’s efforts came from inside the box and again forced Gordon into making a vital save.

Heaton Stannington came close to equaliser inside the opening ten minutes of the second half when former Dunston player, Dale Pearson fired just wide of Dan Lowson’s left post. Robinson almost doubled Dunston’s lead following an excellent team move however his effort narrowly flew past the post. Dan Wilson was then sent through on goal however his effort was comfortably saved by Gordon.

Dunston continued to push and were rewarded with a second goal on 69 minutes when Rory Edwards grabbed his first Dunston goal as his strike from the edge of the box flew past Gordon to double Dunston’s lead. The game was sealed six minutes later when a goal of the season contender from Robinson made it 3-0 as he curled a wonderful effort into the top corner.

Heaton Stannington pulled one back on 86 minutes when Leighton Hopper tapped home from close-range. Despite the late consolation goal, Heaton never proved a threat to the Dunston goal in the last fiv minutes as the Dunston defence held firm to get back to winning ways.
