REPORT | Dunston UTS 2 Bridlington Town 1
Goals from Harry Gardiner and David Robinson saw Dunston beat Bridlington Town 2-1 to win their first league game since August.
Jon McDonald made one change to the side that beat Sunderland U18s on Tuesday with Phil Turnbull replacing JJ Chrisp in midfield.
Dunston started the strongest out of the two teams with Gardiner having a header saved down low by Dash in the Bridlington goal.
The game then went quieter for 30 minutes with both teams trying to figure each other out before a Turnbull free-kick narrowly dipped over the crossbar.
However, as half-time approached, a long ball from Turnbull sent Gardiner in behind the Bridlington defence. Gardiner kept his composure and slotted past Dash to put Dunston 1-0 up at the break.
Dunston started the second half the brighter, creating early chances — Gardiner saw his effort blocked, and JJ O’Donnell struck the woodwork before David Robinson doubled the lead on 59 minutes with a fine strike from the edge of the box.
Substitute Jake Day pulled a goal back for Bridlington, and despite late pressure in search of an equaliser, Dunston held on to secure an important three points.
Next up for Dunston is a home game in the Pitching in Northern Premier East against Blyth Spartans this Tuesday.
