Report | Blyth Spartans 2 Dunston UTS 0

A poor performance from Dunston up in Northumberland resulted in a key result for relegation threatened Blyth Spartans.

Jon McDonald made two changes to the side that beat North Ferriby last time out with Jude Swailes and Dan Wilson replacing Jack Walker and Sado Djalo.

Dunston began the game the brightest however never really caused the Blyth goal many problems in the opening thirty minutes with Fin Neary and Chris McDonald both seeing efforts sail over the Spartans goal.

Just after the half hour mark, Blyth took the lead with a scramble in the box ending up in the ball breaking to Jack Foalle who poked home from close-range with that being the last action of a quiet first half.

Dunston began the second half searching for an equaliser with Tom Devitt finding himself free inside the Spartans box however his effort was easily held by Dobson in the Blyth goal.

Michael Pearson then had an effort from the edge of the area on 51 minutes however his volley trickled past the post before substitute Dan Turner saw his effort narrowly go over the bar.

With Dunston pushing for an equaliser, the game swung in Blyth’s favour when the Fed were reduced to ten-men following a late tackle from Harvey Neary.

As the clock ticked over to minute ninety, Pearson almost grabbed an equaliser however his effort narrowly went wide of the post before four minutes later Blyth sealed the game with Jamie Clark coming off the bench to tap home from close-range.

Next up for Dunston is an away game against second place Emley in the Pitching in Nothern Premier East next Saturday.
