REPORT | Dunston UTS 1 Hebburn Town 0
A first half stunner by Wil Shaw secured a place in the Isuzu FA Trophy second round for the first time in the clubs history.
Jon McDonald chose an unchanged side from Tuesday’s 3-3 draw against Bishop Auckland however one change came on the bench with the returning Josh Donaldson replacing Elliott Stephenson.
The game started fairly even with both teams creating chances in the opening 20 minutes. Harvey Neary saw his shot roll past the post whereas at the opposite end Jack Foalle was denied an opening goal for Hebburn by an excellent block in the Dunston defence.
The deadlock was broken on 29 minutes when JJ O’Donnell’s touch was set down perfectly for Wil Shaw to curl home from 25-yards to give Dunston a well-earned lead.
Dunston pushed for a second before the break with Sado Djalo’s flick and shot narrowly going wide. Foalle had the chance to give Hebburn an equaliser on the stroke of half-time however his effort hit the side netting.
The Fed started the second half exactly the same as they ended the first with Shaw testing Cameron in the Hebburn goal who split to Djalo whose effort was blocked.
David Robinson thought he had doubled Dunston’s lead on the hour mark however his goal was ruled out due to a handball in the box. A minute later, Robinson’s attempted lob from 40-yards out landed wide of Cameron’s goal.
On 71 minutes, it was Hebburn’s turn to have a goal ruled out. Gary Martin thought he had equalised for the hornets however the offside flag denied him.
Dunston continued to push for a second goal to seal the game and substitute Josh Donaldson almost done just that with efforts in successive minutes being kept out by Cameron and the woodwork.
Late pressure from Hebburn on the Dunston goal wasn’t enough as The Fed held on to secure a place in the Isuzu FA Trophy second round.
Next up for Dunston is a home game in the Pitching in Nothern Premier East against Grimsby Borough this Tuesday.
