REPORT | Dunston UTS 5 Sunderland AFC U18s 0

Goals from JJ O’Donnell, JJ Chrisp, Michael Pearson and a brace from Wil Shaw saw Dunston progress into the next round of the Durham Challenge Cup.

Jon McDonald made three changes to the side that beat Warrington Rylands on Saturday with JJ Chrisp, Fin Neary and Harry Gardiner replacing Dan Turner, Sado Djalo and Phil Turnbull.

Dunston’s dominance showed early on when Cowen in the Sunderland goal was forced into a triple save to prevent Dunston from taking a very early lead.

However, the deadlock was broken on 11 minutes as Wil Shaw’s corner was fumbled over the line by Cowen despite calls from few Sunderland players that he was fouled.

Dunston continued to push and were awarded a penalty on 23 minutes when Michael Pearson was fouled in the box. JJ O’Donnell stepped up to take the penalty and he smashed it into the bottom left corner to put Dunston 2-0 up.

As the first half reached its latter stages, Dunston looked for a third and were again denied by Cowen following shots from Fin Neary and JJ Chrisp.

Early into the second half, Shaw scored his second of the game with a free kick from 25 yards out which deflected past Cowen in the Sunderland goal.

Dunston scored their fourth goal on 57 minutes when Chrisp scored his first competitive Dunston goal with a sweetly struck half-volley from the edge of the box.

As the game approached its latter stages, Dunston scored their fifth as Michael Pearson stabbed home from close-range following a goal mouth scramble.

Next up for Dunston is a home game in the Pitching in Nothern Premier East against Bridlington Town this Saturday.
