MATCH PREVIEW | Stockton Town (H)

Dunston UTS head into tomorrow’s Durham Challenge Cup tie against Stockton Town full of confidence after an incredible comeback victory away to Ossett United at the weekend.

Manager Jon McDonald said Saturday’s win in West Yorkshire was the ‘proudest’ he’d felt during his two- and half-year stint as manager with the club, and with good reason.

The Fed battled back from a goal, and a man down, following Phil Turnbull’s dismissal, to claim all three points and keep their play-off dreams alive.

“On Saturday the togetherness and willingness to work for each other was evident. The lads were a real credit to the club and it was a good journey home.” McDonald said.

But Tuesday night presents a fresh challenge as Dunston face off against Northern Premier Division side Stockton Town at the UTS stadium.

Two comprehensive 5-0 wins in previous rounds against Sunderland U18s and FC Hartlepool will see The Anchors make the relatively short trip up the A19 for Tuesday’s quarter-final clash.

Despite facing a team from the league above, Jon McDonald is confident that his side can maintain their strong from this season which has seen them lose just two of their last seventeen games in all competitions.

“We prepare like we do for every game; we do our analysis of the opposition and consider the things we need to do, to give us the best chance of winning the game.

“We’ve faced teams from higher up the pyramid five times already this season and equipped ourselves very well, these are the games you want to be involved in as a player or manager.

“We know Stockton well, and have always had good games against each other, they’re having a good season too, so it all makes for an exciting cup tie.” said the Dunston manager.

Dunston have reached the final of the Durham Challenge Cup on three previous occasions, in 2005, 2011 and 2018, but have never lifted the trophy.

Kick off is at 19:30, and ticket prices are at a reduced price of:

Adults (£5) Concessions (£3) U16s (£2)

Pay on the gate with either cash or card.
