REPORT | Sheffield 0 Dunston UTS 2
Dunston picked up their sixth win in their last seven games, with an excellent 2-0 win away at Sheffield.
Jon McDonald made two changes from his side that beat Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday, with Jude Swailes and David Robinson returning to the squad, replacing Dan Turner and Craig Baxter.
JJ O’Donnell provided assists for both Jude Swailes and Dale Pearson in the second half at the Home of Football Stadium, allowing Dunston to walk away as comfortable victors.
The match got off to an uneventful start, both teams battling for possession and to get a foothold in the match. The ball spent the majority of the first half bouncing between the two halves of the pitch, but Dunston did fashion a couple of half-chances, with JJ O’Donnell firing over the bar on 4 minutes, and David Robinson repeating the feat ten minutes later. With nothing else of note to report of the first half, the teams went into the interval goalless.
After the break, it was Dunston who started on the front foot, as Dale Pearson found himself in the box on 47 minutes, but was met with a spectacular double save from Sheffield ‘keeper Mikey Roxburgh.
It didn’t take long for the deadlock to be broken, however, as on 56 minutes JJ O’Donnell swung a cross towards the back post, which was headed into the bottom corner by Jude Swailes to open the scoring.
The lead would be doubled just minutes later, as JJ O’Donnell unlocked the Sheffield defence with a superb pass, this time teeing up Dale Pearson to drive the ball past Roxburgh into the bottom corner.
The following 10 minutes passed uneventfully, but that was nearly changed by Harvey Neary, who embarked on a magnificent box-to-box solo run, but his effort flew just wide of the post.
The last ten minutes passed in similar fashion to most of the match, whereby both teams traded possession and neither dominated in absolute terms. For Dunston, this wouldn’t matter, as they ran out 2-0 victors at the Home of Football Stadium.
The Blues are back in action again this Saturday (29th March), visiting Ossett United.
