Match Report | North Ferriby 2-1 Dunston UTS

Dunston fell to a 2-1 defeat away at North Ferriby in league action, ending the Blues’ eight-game unbeaten run in the league.

Jon McDonald made two changes to the side that beat Garforth Town two weeks ago, with the returning Michael Pearson replacing the recently departed Jordan Lamb, as well as JJ Chrisp coming in for Chris McDonald at left-back.

Goals from Danny East and Tom Corner gave all three points to the hosts, despite a late goal from David Robinson giving the visitors some hope.

The game started with a flurry of attacks from the home side, as Aaron Steavens was forced into an excellent save at point blank range, denying Tom Corner.

Chances started to come for Dunston after fifteen minutes of Ferriby dominance, with Scott Robson failing to put away a Dale Pearson cross from a few yards out.

Minutes later, Robson was inches away from breaking the deadlock after a poor back-pass from Josh Dennett started a race between Robson & goalkeeper Ben Bottomley. Dunston’s number nine got to the ball first but could only hit the post with his flick.

The Villagers were nearly reduced to ten men, as Jack Johnson flew in with a dangerous tackle to wipe out JJ O’Donnell. Despite protests from the Dunston staff and players, referee Waqar Ahmed decided a yellow card was the punishment.

After an eventful first-half, Dunston started the stronger of the two sides after the break. The skipper Michael Pearson had a chance to break the deadlock minutes into the half, failed to hit the target from a few yards out from an O’Donnell corner.

However, the momentum was then flipped on fifty minutes, as a lovely move from the hosts resulted in Danny East smashing the ball past Steavens at the back post.

Dunston almost equalised soon after, with Jude Swailes smashing the crossbar with a flicked header from a corner. Jon McDonald’s side had a few half chances, but it was North Ferriby who snatched the next goal.

It was a set-piece that doubled the Villagers’ advantage, as the conveniently named Tom Corner headed in a corner at the front post.

The Blues fired back almost immediately, as their best football of the afternoon was rewarded with a goal. Harvey Neary drove forward and left the Ferriby midfield in his dust, before setting up Dan Turner. Turner beat his full-back before dropping the ball off for Robinson, who perfectly placed it in the top left corner to half the deficit.

The visiting side couldn’t get another to level the score, and with some help from the dark arts, North Ferriby were able to hold on for all three points.

Dunston are back in action on Saturday 21st December, travelling to Beechnut Lane to face Pontefract Collieries.
