REPORT | Emley 2 Dunston UTS 2
Ten-men Dunston battled hard to hold the league leaders Emley to a 2-2 draw at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground, coming from behind twice with goals from Dale Pearson & David Robinson.
Jon McDonald opted to name an almost unchanged starting eleven, with the only change being Dan Turner coming in on the right for Sado Djalo. Richard Coulson also made his return from injury and found a place on the bench.
The game started well for Dunston, with a few chances coming within the early pickings of the affair. The best saw JJ O'Donnell whip a delicious ball towards the back post for Scott Robson, who missed the target with his head.
The aforementioned O'Donnell was brought on after just eleven minutes, after Dan Turner was forced off with an early injury.
Despite a strong start from the Blues, it was the hosts who took the lead. Pewits skipper Alexander Metcalfe whipped a bouncing ball into the penalty area, which evaded everybody in the box and snuck inside of the right post.
A long afternoon in Huddersfield looked to be on the cards for Jon McDonald's side, but Dale Pearson had other thoughts. He latched onto the end of a diagonal pass towards the left hand side, before driving at the Emley full-back and slotting the ball into the bottom corner.
The first-half ended quietly, with Dunston heading into the changing room quietly confident of getting a result.
The second-half started very quietly, but around the halfway mark of the half saw Dunston begin to pile on the pressure to find a winner. Micky Pearson & Scott Robson both came close with chances in the penalty area, but the best chance fell to Tom Devitt.
The loanee centre-half had the chance to shoot in the six yard box, but completely mishit the effort and lost the chance to get his second goal in as many games.
The game was completely flipped on its head when Chris McDonald was sent off for Dunston. He was shown two yellow cards, the first for delaying an Emley free-kick and the second for a foul near his own goal.
Almost instantly, the Pewits scored what they believed to be their winner, as Isaac Baldwin launched a long throw-in into the Dunston box, which was bundled in by Charlie Barks.
It looked like another defeat on the road was imminent for Dunston, but Phil Turnbull & David Robinson had other ideas.
In usual Turnbull fashion, the veteran swung a ridiculous ball into the box that perfectly hung up for Robinson, who expertly headed it powerfully past Declan Lambton.
The hosts had a massive chance to win it late on, as Amir Berchil swung a ball in that substitute Mohammad Qasim should’ve nodded home, but the latter missed the target completely.
The full time whistle was blown, meaning Dunston left Huddersfield with a very good point against top of the league.
A trio of home games awaits for Jon McDonald’s men, with Sherwood Colliery, Grimsby Borough and Consett all visiting the UTS Stadium in the next two weeks.
