REPORT | Dunston UTS 2 Ossett United 0
Dunston made it four wins in a row and rounded off a spectacular week with a 2-0 home win against Ossett United.
Dale Pearson notched both goals in either half as Dunston maintained their third place position in the league table.
Both sides flew out of the blocks at the start of the game, trying to fashion a chance and make a foothold for themselves in the game. The first chance of the day fell to Dunston, as Sado Djalo slid Dale Pearson through on goal, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left corner to open the scoring on 8 minutes.
The rest of the half passed uneventfully, with neither side able to fashion a clear-cut chance as the half drew to a close.
After the interval, both sides brought intensity in a similar fashion to the first half, and on the hour mark David Robinson found himself in space in the Ossett penalty area, but his powerful effort was met with a good save by goalkeeper Aleks Petrovic.
Minutes later, Ossett came equally close to levelling the tie as substitute Oli Johnson’s effort from outside the area rifled off the crossbar and was eventually cleared by the Dunston backline.
Concluding this back and forth period of play, Dale Pearson found himself in a good position in the penalty area, but his shot was saved by Petrovic, looping up and fortuitously hitting the crossbar before going behind for a corner.
Following this, Ossett took the initiative and dominated possession but were unable to create anything clear-cut. Dunston defended well, dealing with their attacks with relative comfort.
On 85 minutes, a Phil Turnbull corner bobbled around in the six yard box before breaking for Dale Pearson, who forced the ball over the line to double Dunston’s advantage.
At this point, Ossett threw caution to the wind and put everything they had into their attacks, and they thought they had one back at the end of normal time, with Oli Johnson sliding the ball home at the back post only for his celebrations to be halted by the linesman’s flag.
Six minutes were added on, and right towards the end Dan Lowson was forced into a very good double save, Lucas Smith’s initial effort was met with a good save but was unable to be held as it fell to Joe Crosby, whose effort flashed across goal resulting in a goal kick, and the eventual blowing of the full-time whistle brought this classic to an eventful close.
