REPORT | Bradford Park Avenue 1 Dunston UTS 1
Dunston earned a point on the road away at Bradford Park Avenue thanks to a Dan Turner strike on the stroke of half-time.
With Phil Turnbull suspended, Alfie Turnbull unavailable, and injuries to Michael Pearson, Chris McDonald, Sado Djalo, Scott Lowery and Richard Coulson, Jon McDonald was left to pick from a depleted squad.
The hosts got off to the better start as Connor Shanks played a pinpoint ball to Ben Blythe who forced Dan Lowson into an early stop with five minutes played.
With nine minutes played, Dunston’s injury woes worsened as Craig Baxter limped off with a groin injury just one week after returning to action. Dan Turner came on in his place.
On 11 minutes, Kareem Hassan-Smith curled a dangerous cross into the box only for the ball was turned away by JJ Chrisp.
With the hosts having the majority of the ball, they finally broke the deadlock on 33 minutes as Hassan-Smith fired home.
The Avenue winger broke away down the right and curled a powerful effort across goal and into the back of the net.
Despite the setback, Dunston managed to pull level with just seconds remaining in the first half. A long ball was flicked on by Scott Robson into the path of Dale Pearson. Pearson drove forward before laying the ball off for Dan Turner who curled a stunning shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
As the second half got underway, Dunston looked to take control and almost took the lead when JJ O’Donnell’s effort on the volley was denied by Jack Hall.
On 72 minutes, another chance fell for Dunston as Jordan Lamb was played in behind the Bradford defence but was denied by an excellent last-ditch block from Mark Beevers.
Dan Lowson had to remain focused as he was called into action on 78 minutes. Hassan-Smith was once again causing problems down the right and he forced Lowson into a low save at the near post.
Two minutes later, Lowson produced an even more impressive save when he dived at full stretch to deny a stinging effort from Ted Lavelle.
That chance for the hosts proved to be the final chance of the game as the full-time whistle was blown after four minutes of stoppage time.
Dunston remain 6th in the league with a trip to Brighouse up next on Wednesday evening.
