REPORT | Scarborough Athletic 5 Dunston UTS 2

Despite goals from substitutes Richard Coulson & Sado Djalo, five goals from five different scorers made it a night to forget for Jon McDonald’s side.

The hosts took the lead almost instantly, as Scarborough’s big man Richie Bennett squared the ball to the back post, for Kieran Weledji to easily knock it in from a few yards out.

Dunston goalkeeper Dan Lowson made a massive save to keep the score at 1-0, as he made himself big to deny Bennett from doubling the Seadogs’ lead.

The hosts carried on pushing for a second goal, with their closest chance coming from Cameron Wilson, who curled an effort towards the top corner, but saw it bounce off the underside of the crossbar and somehow not cross the line.

Dunston managed to create a few decent chances in the first half, with both Michael & Dale Pearson having efforts saved by Ryan Whitley in the Scarborough net.

The second goal came on thirty two minutes, as Saturday’s fortunate goalscorer Alex Wiles made a great pass to play Dom Tear through on goal, who calmly slotted it past Dan Lowson.

The third goal came shortly after, as Phil Turnbull was seemingly fouled by Alex Wiles, but the referee bizarrely didn’t give the decision and Turnbull was punished for not playing to the whistle, as he stood still and allowed Wiles to break through on goal and comfortably stroke it into the back of the net.

The second half started the exact same way, as just minutes after the whistle was blown, Cameron Wilson intercepted a sloppy back pass before finishing it into the bottom corner from a narrow angle.

Dan Turner was an ever-present danger for Dunston on the wing despite the score line, with a number of skilful runs and stinging shots keeping the Seadogs’ back line on their toes.

The second-half started to fizzle out with nothing of note happening, as both sides made a number of changes which killed the flow of the game.

One of these changes saw Dunston winger Richard Coulson come on to make his 100th appearance for the club.

Dunston’s substitutes started to make a difference as they put some pressure on the home side’s back line, which culminated in Richie Coulson marking his landmark appearance with a goal.

Coulson latched onto a scuffed shot from David Robinson, before coolly finishing it on the turn to make it 4-1.

The Seadogs answered back ten minutes later, as Luke Rees latched onto a cross from Lewis Maloney and buried it to regain their four goal advantage.

The game finished with a cheer from the Dunston supporters, as Sado Djalo capitalised on a botched clearance in the six yard box from Bailey Gooda, as he smashed the ball in from close range.

The result means that Dunston’s Emirates FA Cup run comes to an end, after five games.

Focus now returns to the league, where Dunston remain unbeaten.
