REPORT | Dunston UTS 1 Scarborough Athletic 1

Dunston will to travel to Scarborough for a replay on Tuesday evening to settle this FA Cup tie after a one-all draw at the UTS Stadium.

Scott Robson headed home his third goal of the season early in the second half however, just five minutes later, the visitors pulled level in fortunate circumstances with the game finishing all-square.

Harvey Neary and Dale Pearson came into the starting line-up as Jon McDonald made two changes from the defeat at Emley AFC eight days ago. Richard Coulson and Sado Djalo dropped to the bench.

After a promising opening to the game, Dunston began to get a foothold and created their first opportunity with nine minutes played. Following a set piece, the ball dropped to Jude Swailes inside the area however, his effort on goal was flashed wide of the post.

Dunston were unlucky again with 12 minutes played when Scott Robson latched onto a long ball and went one-on-one with Whitley, only for the referee Daniel Ranson to penalise Robson for a harsh foul on a Scarborough defender.

Robson continued to cause problems for the Scarborough defence as he smashed a volley wide on 16 minutes before being denied by a superb last-ditch tackle by Maltby in the 20th minute.

The Seadogs started slowly, but they began to grow into the game with ten minutes remaining in the first half. A cross from the left found Dom Tear at the back post, but somehow his headed effort drifted wide from just a few yards out.

On 39 minutes, Cameron Wilson arguably should have put the visitors ahead as he pinched the ball from Jude Swailes before misplacing his shot after going one-on-one with Dan Lowson. The final chance of the half fell to the visitors again when Harry Green curled an effort wide from close range.

The second half started similarly to the first as Dunston once again started the brighter of the two sides and were rewarded on 51 minutes. A pinpoint cross from the left foot of Phil Turnbull was met by Scott Robson, who guided his header past Whitley and into the back of the net.

However, the lead lasted only a matter of minutes as The Seadogs equalised in fortunate circumstances. A long range shot from Alex Wiles took a wicked deflection off Phil Turnbull and dropped into the net to bring the score level once again.

The visitors began to apply the pressure and had multiple chances to take the lead throughout the second half. Jude Swailes produced a stunning block in the 62nd minute to deny Richard Bennett, before Dan Lowson pulled off an excellent reflex save one minute later.

On 64 minutes, Kieran Weledji rose highest and nodded a headed attempt narrowly wide before Harry Green also missed with a header on 70 minutes.

With 16 minutes to go, Dunston almost regained the lead as Jack Walker nearly netted his third of the season. The centre half got onto the end of a Turnbull delivery, but his header was just over the crossbar. Down the other end of the pitch, Lowson was called into action again as he had to make a smart save to deny Bennett.

With ten minutes to go, Dunston began to get on top again. Sado Djalo, Dan Turner and Josh Gilchrist all entered the fray.

On 82 minutes, another cross from Turnbull caused the away side some problems as Swailes guided a header towards goal, but Whitley was equal to it between the sticks.

Josh Gilchrist almost made an immediate impact as he burst through the Scarborough defence and dragged an effort narrowly wide of the post just one minute after coming on.

Five minutes of additional time was indicated by the referee and there was enough time for another three golden opportunities for Dunston. On the edge of the box, the ball fell into the path of Turnbull, but his first-time effort rose just over the bar.

Two very similar chances then came as Gilchrist slid the ball across the box for Djalo who was inches away from tapping home. A minute later, Turner put the ball into the box for Djalo, but once again he wasn't able to connect from close range.

The game finished level with Dunston earning a replay away at Scarborough to be played this Tuesday evening. Both clubs will be in the hat for Monday's Third Round Qualifying draw.
