PREVIEW | Scarborough Athletic (H)

In one of the standout ties of the Second Qualifying Round, we welcome National League North outfit, Scarborough Athletic, to the UTS Stadium this Saturday.

Dunston began their FA Cup campaign this season with a 1-1 draw away at Whickham as a Harvey Neary goal took us to a replay. Dunston ran out as comfortable 3-0 winners in the replay with goals from Dale Pearson, Sado Djalo and Dan Turner.

The reward was a trip to Birtley Town in another local derby where Dunston convincingly romped into the next round as goals from Jack Walker, David Robinson, Sado Djalo (2), and Scott Robson saw the club's smooth passage into the next round where Scarborough await.

WHAT WE'RE SAYING

Dunston Manager Jon McDonald spoke after Friday's FA Trophy defeat at Emley previewing the Scarborough clash:

"We've got a full week ahead of us and we'll train twice, on Tuesday and Thursday. This is a huge game for this football club and one thing that is for sure is that we will need to be better than we were in the first half tonight.

"There were a lot of positives in the second half. The lads who came off the bench did really well, but make no bones about it, we're going to have to be right at it next Saturday.

"I'm confident with the characters and togetherness that we have in the squad that we will be. It was on an off night, but we've got to move on and be ready for next week."

Dunston defender Jack Walker also commented on the prospect of facing a side two leagues higher up in the pyramid:

"It's going to be a tough challenge and a great day for the club, hopefully we can get a result. On a personal level, it's always good to test yourself against better players so I am really looking forward to it!

"I would say I'm quietly confident going into Saturday. Obviously, we will be the underdogs, but I think with the squad we have, and being at home, we've got a great chance to get into the next round."

LAST TIME OUT

Despite the two leagues difference between the two clubs, Dunston and Scarborough last met only two years ago in the same round at Scarborough's Flamingo Land Stadium.

Dom Plant put The Seadogs 1-0 up just before the half hour mark. The lead was doubled in very unfortunate circumstances as a free-kick cannoned off the post before ricocheting off the back of Dan Staples' head and into the back of the net right on half-time.

Dunston battled on and pulled a goal back in the 58th minute when Jack Elliott set up Liam Thear from close-range. A long range strike from Dom Plant put his side 3-1 up seven minutes later. South Shields' loanee Will Jenkins then scored with a stunning curling effort from distance however, the hosts progressed with a 3-2 win.
