Match report.
Dunston got their pre-season off to a solid start, in a fast paced competitive friendly, Chris Swailes side ran out as winners with a 3-0 win over Northern League side North Shields.
Both sides had chances in the opening stages of the first half in a end to end encounter, Jack Elliott opening the scoring after 40 minutes, finishing at close range from a Mark Fitzpatrick cross, as the hosts headed into half time leading 1-0.
With a flurry of half time substitutions, Scott Heslop, on in place of Mark Fitzpatrick, doubled Dunston’s lead shortly after the restart from the penalty spot, the forward latching onto a long downfield clearance from Dan Capewell, who put in an assured and competent performance, Heslop chased and hassled his marker only to be hauled down inside the box. Making no mistake from the spot, he calmly dispatchhis spot kick into the bottom corner with the keeper going the wrong way.
The hosts furthered their lead on 60 minutes, a rapid break away down the wing by the pacy Adam Wrightson, his cross picking out Heslop at the back post who cushioned his volley into the back of the net.
Dunston looked sharp throughout the game, despite been without the services of Terry Galbraith, Michael Hall and Craig Scott. Based on this performance the competition for places and strength of the squad bodes well for the start of the season.
