Dunston travelled for their final league game of the season and possibly their opponents’ last game at their current ground, to the Blue Flames, Benton to play West allotment Celtic. Dunston were looking to end their bad run of form after another defeat in midweek at Penrith after leading in the first half. Allotment are unfortunately already relegated and have also informed the league of their pending resignation after their landlords the Northumberland FA had increased their ground rent by 67% to about £350 per game.

v W. Allotment Celtic

West allotment almost surprised Dunston in the early stages but the header from Young from a free kick was ruled offside and then on 4 minutes Stephenson fired in a cross that went wide of the far post. Dunston soon collected themselves and started playing some good two touch football that got them into scoring positions and on 10, their enterprising play allowed Drane to drive in a 22 yard low shot past Allotment goalkeeper Bannon to give Dunston the lead.

The goal was followed by some more good approach play by Dunston and their lead was increased on 14, as the ball came out of the box to Slaughter who fired in a screamer of  a shot from 25 yards, that struck the underside of

the cross bar as it entered the net giving Bannon no chance to save. A minute later Dunston got their third as Thear played in a low cross that Halliday turned home at the front post.

v W. Allotment Celtic

On 18, Thear dribbled into the box and laid off to Drane who turned with the ball and shot wide of the target. Allotment rallied and on 25, Stephenson fired in a deep cross from the right and fortunately for Dunston, went out of play at the back post. On 28, Burrell had a shot cleared off the line by Dunn with Bannon beaten, from the resulting corner both Burrell and Slaughter had shots as Allotment defiantly defended their goal.

On 28, again it was Stephenson who played in a cross, this time it beat all the attempts to make contact and went out of play on the far side. Dunston final opportunity to score in the first half came on 36 as Drane drove into the Allotment box but his shot went just wide of the far post.

.

After the break, it was Allotment who got the first chance on 52 minutes; and again it was Stephenson whose cross

this time that was caught high by Norton. Dunston whose first half play seemed to have deserted them got a chance

on 58 as Drane played in Thear against Bannon, but Thear shot wide of the far post. On 62 a Richardson cross was just too long for Pearson to make contact as he approached the back post. On 68, Stephenson fired in a free kick

that Bannon saved well. On 71, Pearson played into Byrne who seemed certain to score but he could just not get control of the ball and the chance to score was lost. On 79, another Dunston chance was lost as Byrne received a

pass into the Allotment area, his attempted chip over Bannon was deflected allowing Bannon to chase back and collect.

v W. Allotment Celtic

As the game approached a close Richardson was played through with only the keeper Bannon to beat, Bannon forced him wide and the chance was lost again with Richardson receiving an injury in the process. The call went out for a substitution of Goalkeeper Coach Andy Clark, in his final game for Dunston, to enter the fray but before the substitution could take place, the referee blow the whistle to bring the game to a close.
