Tired Dunston lack finishing edge...

Dunston travelled to Seaham to play their penultimate league away game against Seaham RS in the EBAC Northern League Division One. A tired, depleted and disappointed Dunston after Thursdays Durham CC Cup  Final defeat to Consett they once again have to once again pull their socks up, do tie up their boots and try to get another league win.

.

Manager Chris Swales is thankful for the return of Jack Elliott and Owen Henderson to bolster his side missing Dale Burrell, Dan Lowther, Scott Heslop and Kelvin Thear. Seaham line up with former Dunston players David Scorer at Centre half and Ashley Davis on the bench.

.

Seaham RS: Harkess, Johnston (Davis 45), Price, Staunch, Scorer, Howe, Ramshaw, Chapman (Scott 76), Munro, Hetherington (Croft 61), Bird. Subs not Used: Hodgson, Johnson.

.

Dunston UTS: Harrison, Elliott C, Halliday, Stafford, Pollock, Capewell, Elliott J, Pearson, Fitzpatrick, Thear (Marrs 74), Henderson. Subs not Used: Grant, Hall, Swailes, Lowther.

Dunston started brightly strongly and on 7, created the first chance as some neat approach play fed Thear into the box he in turn pulled the ball back to Pearson whose shot from 12 yards was blocked and cleared. Two minutes later Thear fed Halliday on the left wing but his cross was blocked and cleared. Another 2 minutes and Thear was supplying a corner which flicked on at the front post and met by Stafford at the back post whose header went over the bar.

.

Seaham replied on 14 as Bird on left of the Dunston goal fired a shot from 6 yards across goal and past the far post. On 16, Callum Elliott was supplying a cross to the back post; Henderson was just not tall enough to make contact. On 24, Hetherington tried a shot from 22 yard but it was deflected away from goal for a corner. Dunston immediately replied with Thear whose shot from 25 yards went over the bar.

.

3 minutes later, Fitzpatrick drove a 30 yard free kick low on target; Harkess just managed to scramble the ball wide and away. A minute later and a corner found Capewell at the back post he returned the ball across the goal towards Pollock who was just unable to direct his header on target. Seaham replied with a Ramshaw run down the right wing; however Halliday recovered to block the cross. On 31, the industrious Jack Elliott played a cross into the back post but it was cleared as Capewell tried to make contact.

Half Time Score: Seaham RS 0 – 0 Dunston UTS

The second half again started brightly but both defences were getting the upper hand until the 54 minute when Jack Elliott drove a cross in and Harkess was fortunate to parry it away from the goal. Again after a spell of defensive dominance and midfield play until the 73rd minute when Ramshaw tried a 25 yard shot dipping just over the bar. On 84, Callum Elliott shot just wide from 22 yards out. A minute later again Callum Elliott tried a 25 yard shot all along the ground and Harkess saved. In a minute Dunston were behind as substitute Scott tried a shot from 25 yards out that went over Harrison and into the net. Just like the waiting for buses within a minute Dunston were level as Henderson played in a cross to the back post where Dunston substitute Liam Marrs got in to head the ball home from only a yard out.

.

The game continued with both sides trying to produce a winner and in the first minute of added time Marrs shot over the bar from 18 yards. A minute later the referee awarded a penalty as Ramshaw went down in the box under a Stafford challenge, Davis took the Seaham penalty but with a brilliant save by Harrison the ball was cleared after it rebounded into play.

Full Time Score: Seaham RS 1 – 1 Dunston UTS

Dunston’s Man of the Match: Jack Elliott –Jack again worked tirelessly and continued to probe the Seaham defence creating opportunities for his team mates. However, Dunston were left once again a very tired side that had battled hard and were unfortunate not to win 3 points. Dunston still have 3 games to play this week against Marske away on Monday night, Bishop Auckland home on Wednesday 7:30 pm KO,  before their league cup semi-final away to Stockton on Thursday night.
