Depleted Dunston not good enough on the day...


Dunston welcomed Seaham Red Star to the UTS Stadium for their EBAC Northern League Division 1 game. Dunston are currently in fine form and are currently In third place with 30 points from 12 games and have games in hand over

the teams at the top of the league. Seaham are currently in 10th place with 19 points from 12 games.


In recent years fixtures Seaham have been having the edge over Dunston so an decent game is expected. Dunston are struggling with injuries and also missing Scott Heslop the goal scorer from this weeks 1-0 League Cup victory against West Allotment Celtic alongside goalkeeper Aidan Grant making 7 first eleven players not available.

Seaham Red Star: Harkess, Munro, Price, Hodgson, Staunch, Scorer, Hetherington (Bailey 80), Croft (Bramley 55),

McBryde (Scott 82),Davis, Bird. Subs not Used: Bailey, Bramley, Scott, Chapman, Galbraith.

Seaham started brighter and Bird got the first chance, a shot from 18 yards blocked by Pollock in the first minute. 3 minutes later, Hetherington tried a shot which was deflected for a corner. On 5, Rundle got Dunston's first chance a 25

yard shot that was blocked. On 12, Pollock misjudged a header which allowed McBryde one on one against Harrison,

McBryde deftly chipped over the advancing Harrison and went into the net giving Seaham the lead. Dunston failed to

retaliate , until the 20th minute when Anderson put in a cross which Harkess failed to punch clear and Thear at the back post under pressure was just unable to apply the correct touch to get the ball into the net.

On 23, a Rundle free kick was headed back across the Seaham goal before being cleared. Seaham were still a danger

at the other end but the next real chance nearly saw the Dunston equaliser, on 40 minutes as Stafford played into

Thear on the edge of the box, Thear made a neat turn and played a strong shot which beat Harkess but thundered off

the far post and rebounded before being cleared.

The second half saw the injured Halliday replaced on 47 minutes and Kelvin Thear being introduced and the side was shuffled with Elliott dropping into the back four. Even so it was Seaham again who got the first chance of the half as Hetherington shot from 18 yards out just past the far post. On 51, Harrison blocked a 12 yard shot from Bird, the ball
rebounded and eventually fell to Croft who bent a shot from 20 yards out just inside the post and it was 2-0 to Seaham.

It was not Dunston's day as on 51 Liam Thear fired a shot just wide of the mark. Again on 58, Harrison was beaten by

a Bird shot but Pollock was on hand to clear. On 64, Davis fired a shot onto the Dunston post and then fired the

rebound over the bar. A minute later, Harrison stopped a Davis shot from 15 yards. On 75, Anderson crossed to Liam

Thear in the centre of goal , however the ball got stuck in his feet and he could not get a shot in.

On 81, Rundle free kick was headed wide by Anderson.The game petered to an end for Dunston, with Seaham again

being denied by Harrison deflecting shots from Bird and Davis before Liam Thear was denied after dribbling into the Seaham box as Harkess deflected the shot wide.

Dunston's Man of the Match: Niall Harrison.- Niall made a good debut and could not be faulted for either goal, his heroics however kept the score respectful after the injury depleted Dunston side could not raise their game upto their recent form. Another debutee Chris Allan had an a effective game although it may take a couple of games for the teamwork settle.
