Finishing not there as Dunston fail to score...

Dunston welcomed Benfied to the UTS Stadium for their EBAC Northern League Division 1 game. Dunston are fresh

from their Durham county Cup victory 3-1 away to 2nd Division Jarrow FC. Benfield too are having a good cup start

to the season and this has caused them to fall behind on league fixtures leaving them currently in the bottom half of the league. Dunston had to make a late change with Anderson replacing Fitzpatrick just before the kick off.
.

Dunston UTS: Harrison, Hiftle, Halliday, Stafford, Jones, Hall, Elliott (Lowther), Thear, Anderson, Heslop, Rundle.

Benfield made a fast start and as early as the third minute, Orrell dribbled into the Dunston box, only to see his effort

cleared. Within a minute Dunston were having problems again and were unable to get the ball cleared from their area.

On 5, Dunston got a chance as Elliott crossed, Heslop chased and collected the ball out on the left, his cross was played
in low and cleared. As Dunston settled with a strong wind behind them Stafford on 8 minutes tried a shot from 35 yards

out, Grainger safely collected.

v Newcastle Benfield

On 12, former Dunston player, Leedham had a shot from 12 yards out blocked and cleared. Coping better with the

strong wind behind them Dunston settled and tried to set up chances, on 15, Thear got a shot into the side netting after

Heslop had headed on a cross from Rundle. Benfield were still breaking and on 17, Brayson got into the box and shot

from 18 yards only to see Harrison save comfortably. On 20, Grainger got his body behind a Rundle free kick to save, then Halliday picked up a loose ball just inside the Benfield half and advanced to shoot from 35 yards only to see the ball

go over the bar.

A minute late an Elliott cross was headed clear for a corner. Benfield replied with Leedham feeding Brayson into the
box, Harrison was bravely out to collect the ball. Harrison played a long ball putting Heslop through on goal, however the

chance was lost as Heslop failed to control the ball. Dunston continued to make chances but failed to test Grainger in the Benfield goal. On 33 Brayson fired a free kick from 25 yards into the Dunston wall, the rebound fell to Dummett who shot

high over the bar from 30 yards.

v Newcastle Benfield

On 38, Dunston failed again to score as Grainger pushed a Thear shot single handedly around his post. On 42,

Dunston fell behind as Brayson took advantage of a defensive indecision caused by the wind holding back the ball, Brayson controlled and fired his shot past the stranded Harrison and into the net. Dunston tried to recover and Elliott saw

his cross cleared before Stafford saw his free kick cleared from the Benfield area.

Half Time Score: Dunston UTS 0-1 Newcastle Benfield.

Dunston came out determined and played some good approach play but failed to penetrate the Benfield area. On 52, disaster again struck as Jones failed to clear a long ball, the ball was swiftly played upto Orrell who fired a shot home from 15 yards out. Dunston tried to recover and on 53, Heslop crossed into Thear at the back post, it was just too high but Thear was able to turn and tried a chipped shot which was cleared after travelling across the Benfield goal line.

Dunston tried but their scoring boots were not there as chances went begging. On 67, Thear was played into space by

Heslop but his 25 yard shot went over the bar. A minute later Hall headed a Rundle corner on target for goal only to see

his effort deflected clear. On 69, Rundle played in a cross and again Hall saw his header saved by Grainger.  On 71,

Thear saw his 18 yard effort swerve past the far post. Again on 76, Hall saw a strong header from a Rundle corner hit a defender and bounce clear. 2 minutes later Hall, tried a shot but Grainger saved low down near his post. On 80, Lowther

on as substitute for Elliott saw his header strike the cross bar before it was cleared.

v Newcastle Benfield

On 81 Anderson headed off to Rundle who shot from 25 yards went high and wide of the target. On 87, Benfield

increased their lead as Williamson played a ball across to the unmarked Hailes, another Dunston ex player, in the box

who calmly side footed home from 6 yards. Dunston tried to reply but it was not going to be their day.

Final Score: Dunston UTS 0 Newcastle Benfield 3

In Summary, Benfield took and scored from their chances while Dunston continually failed in the final stage, Michael Hall

had a few good chances but a determined Benfield defence made scoring goals very unlikely.

Dunston's Man of Match. Very hard to pick out, Michael Hall was excellent but unlucky in the Benfield area and on

another day may have scored 2 or 3, while Liam Thear tried hard and was unfortunately unable to apply the killer shots.
