Match report - Prescot Cables

Dunston emerged as winners in an enthralling 5 goal thriller at The UTS Stadium with the result sending Chris Swailes side to the top of The Pitching-In Premier North West Division table.

The hosts eventually took the lead on 40 minutes, Liam Thear calmly finishing from a Jack Elliott delivery.

Introduced as a substitute on 30 minutes, Elliott proved to be a constant thorn in the side of Prescots defence.

Cables levelled the score on 68 minutes through James Edgar, despite rarely breaking down the Dunston defence, the host’s inability to put away their chances was punished. A ball played out wide from the middle of the park found Edgar in space, he controlled well and lofted his shot beyond Connell from and acute angle.

Prescot took the lead on 74 minutes; a well worked move finding Edgar out wide, his pull back picking out Matthew Hamilton who nestled his effort into the bottom corner.

In truth Dunston had had enough chances during the game to win the game twice over but now found themselves trailing, the reactions of Cables keeper Mitchell Alan denying Dunston on many occasions throughout the game.  Credit must go to the Dunston players, their heads did not drop and with a sense that they were more than capable of winning the game, they showed a real determination and character to take the three points that their performance had warranted.

Michael Hall restored parity on 78 minutes, the centre half finishing like a cultured forward, with Prescot unable to deal with Galbraiths  delivery from a corner, the ball fell to Hall who controlled the loose ball perfectly, dropped his shoulder to send the defender the wrong way and then venomously drill his effort diagonally into the bottom corner of the net.

With 4 minutes remaining Dunston took a deserved lead and secured the win to send them top of the league. Luke Page dinking his pass into the feet of Liam Thear, with his back to goal, he turned his man to get his shot away, the effort deflected but the ball kindly ricocheted into the path of Jack Elliott, unmarked at the back post he rocketed his first time effort into the roof of the net.
