Dunston commanding in a 3-0 home win over City of Liverpool

Match report by Riley Davison and Dan Whalen

Dunston served up an assured and confident performance in a 3-0 home victory over City of Liverpool FC. A Mark Fitzpartrick brace and a goal from Dan Capewell gained all three points for the home side as the visitors rarely threatened debutant Erno Bostyan’s goal.

Scott Heslop went close to opening the score line on the 4th minute, collecting a throw in from Dan Halliday, he pivoted 180 degrees and flashed his volley just over the bar.

The home side dominated the first half, in a rare attack for “The Purps” Dan Capewell came to the rescue for Dunston with a perfectly timed sliding tackle to take the ball from the feet of Stephen Rigby inside the box.

Capewell was to give Dunston the lead on 39 minutes, an out swinging Liam Marrs corner was bravely met at the back post, the big defender rising above those around him to bravely power his header into the net.

Dunston further added to their lead on 43 minutes with a goal of majestic beauty from Mark Fitzpatrick, Michael Hall easily fended off the challenge of his opponent to play the ball out wide, taking his time to line up his shot, he sent a screamer of shot goal bound with the outside of his boot, the curl and bend on the shot deceiving the keeper to dip wickedly into the net.

With Dunston taking a 2 goal lead into half time, the onus was on the away side to come out attacking. However, it was the hosts who looked the more likely to score and the game was further put out of reach on 54 minutes. Anthony Brown fouled substitute Liam Brooks in the box, with the referee instantly pointing to the spot, Fitzy confidently stepped up to take the spot kick and although the keeper got his hand to it, he was only able to palm the ball onto the inside of the post and into the net.

The three points gained from this game now sees Chris Swailes’ side move up to 11th in the BetVictor Northern Premier North West division. Dunston now find themselves 9 points off the play-off places with games in hand on 8 out of the 10 sides above them.
