Dunston travelled south to Lancashire for second game in the FA Cup Qualifying Round to play Barnoldswick Town.
Dunston are still missing Adam Rundle who is injured but travelled with a confident squad after a second win in the league against Washington in mid week, thanks to goals from Thear and Stafford.

Barnoldswick Town: King, Blades, Crocken, Lloyd, Hodgkinson, Airey, Malia (Higginson 77), Thompson, Hollinder (Threlfell 75), Boyle, Dale. Subs not Used: Hill, Broadleydale, Gorman.

Dunston UTS: Grant, Elliott, Halliday, Pearson, Jones, Hall, Thear L, Burrell, Heslop (Fitzpatrick 75), Stafford, Anderson (Martin 64) Subs not used: Clark, Thear K , Swailes

Dunston started sluggishly while their hosts put them under pressure, in the third minute forced as age from Grant, gradually Dunston started to show up and on 11 Burrell fed Thear turned and shot across the goal and just past the far post. On 14, Boyle for Barnoldswick tried a shot from 18 yards which went wide, play continued with both sides winning and giving the ball away. On 23, Maliafired in a shot from 15 yards which struck the upright and rebounded to be cleared, Dunston replied with a chipped cross from Thear into the area which King failed to punch clear but recovered to collect the ball.

Immediately Barnoldswick were on the attack as Malia went after the ball, however Grant was alert and came out of his box to clear. On 33, Hollinder got a chance from 22 yards as Dunston failed to clear their box but the shot went over, 2 minutes later Hollinder failed to hit the target as a flicked shot went over the bar from close range.

On 37, Malia broke into the box but Grant stopped the shot. A minute later Grant forced away a shot which wasreturned past Grant into the centre of the box were Hollinder was on hand to shoot the ball into the net for the opening goal. On 42, Thear tried to dribble into the box but was tripped just on the edge for a free kick that was taken by Stafford and was well saved by King. As the game went into added time, Anderson saw a shot from 18 y deflected just past the post and then Malia fired a shot wide of the Dunston goal.

Dunston came out in the second half looking determined to right their errors of the first half but I was Baroldswick who gave them their chance on 50 minutes as played a back pass to King, the ball was miskicked by King and Heslop raced in to slot home from 4 yards into an empty net. Dunston had the upper hand and had 5 corners within the next 5 minutes as Thear on 52 & had shots deflected off target and Pearson on 53 Saw his efforts also deflected.

On 74, Dunston almost went ahead except for a last ditch challenge on Stafford by Airey twelve yards out. On 76, Fitzpatrick on for Heslop fired in a shot which was deflected for a corner. In a typical cup game play was ebbing one way and then the other and Barnoldswick replied through Dale who shot wide from 22 yards out.

Dunston were pushing on to try and get a winner but a resilient Barnoldswick replied and almost took the lead on 85 as first Grant pulled of a diving save from a Boyle attempt and the rebound came out to Threlfell who shot and again Grant was able to push the ball wide.

Disaster for Dunston came on 86 as Elliot collided with the out coming Grant to clear a high ball out of the area allowing Boyle to pick up the loose ball and fire into the empty net 2-1 to Barnoldswick. Dunston valiantly fought to push pressure on The Barnoldswick area but in added time it was Grant again who had to make the save as Barnoldswick broke.

Dunston Man of the Match: Aidan Grant, Aidan pulled of some great saves and although he could be slightly faulted for the goals these saves kept Dunston in the game while some of the Dunston players had an off day Well done to Barnoldswick who on the day used their strengths to beat Dunston.
